The Concept: Designing a Statement Ceiling Tree

When the team at Olive Garden Wimbledon approached us, they had a clear vision: they wanted guests to feel as though they were dining beneath a real, ancient tree — not inside a high street restaurant. What they needed was a bespoke statement piece that would stay beautiful year-round and never drop a single leaf onto someone’s plate.

The design centred on one principle: authenticity starts with real materials. Rather than building the entire structure from synthetic components, we incorporated real willow branches as the framework. Willow’s natural curves, textured bark and irregular branching patterns provide exactly the kind of organic complexity that synthetic poles simply cannot replicate. The eye instinctively trusts it.

How We Build a Ceiling Tree Installation

Every Blooms Art project begins with a site survey. For Olive Garden Wimbledon, we mapped the full ceiling span, planned the structural fixing points, and designed the canopy to ensure equal visual impact from every table in the room.

The willow branch framework was assembled and secured first — extending across the ceiling in an arching, cascading form that mirrors how a mature tree actually grows. Individual branches were positioned to create natural-looking dips and clusters rather than a uniform spread.

The artificial foliage was then layered in stages, mixing trailing ivy-style strands with broader leaf varieties and delicate fillers to build depth and density. Lighter, finer pieces were added to the outer edges to create the soft, feathered look real canopies have at their perimeter.

Finally, warm fairy lights were woven throughout — tucked into the foliage rather than draped over it, so the glow feels like sunlight filtering through leaves. The effect at evening service is extraordinary.

Why Artificial Greenery Is the Smart Choice for Restaurants

Real plants at ceiling height need light, water, pruning, pest control and regular replacement. A busy commercial restaurant cannot afford that complexity.

Our installations are built to perform from day one — indefinitely. Every piece is treated with a dust-protective coating, meaning maintenance is as simple as an occasional light brush. All foliage used in commercial settings is fire retardant and fully compliant for hospitality environments. And unlike real plants, the installation looks identical in January as it does in July — always perfect, always lush.

The Result: A Room That Became a Destination

The finished installation at Olive Garden Wimbledon does exactly what great interior design should do — it changes how time feels in a room. Guests arrive and immediately look up. The warm fairy lights create a golden, dappled quality to the evening light that no pendant fixture alone could achieve. Combined with the green walls and natural timber furniture, the tree ties the entire interior together into something genuinely memorable.

People come back because of how the space made them feel. That’s the real return on investment.
